New Year is here and GREENERY is the colour for 2017!

If you’ve followed our blog for awhile now you may recall we like to start off each new year sharing the pantone colour of the year with you. And I must say I am rather smitten with their selection for 2017! It brings to mind FRESH, NATURE and CALM to me and I cannot wait to incorporate it into some upcoming projects I have simmering in the back of my mind.

How fantastic is GREENERY? I just look at it and it makes me happy. If you are curious about Pantone’s past colours of the year or want more details about why they selected it here is a link to Pantone’s webpost about it.

I am so thankful for all the happiness 2016 brought me. Here are some of my highlights!

In February my fiancé Craig took me to Las Vegas for the first time. We got to hike in Valley of fire state park. It was a very memorable day for us as we’d never seen such stunning bright rock faces before.

In March I started a new business which is blooming nicely! In April I went back to Las Vegas for the Arbonne annual training conference which was AMAZING! I learned so much about business and about personal growth that I can apply to Arbonne and to Drakestail and to life in general.

In May I traveled to Ontario to meet my adorable niece Everly who had been born in March. She loves vintage shades just like her auntie!

In August I took 5 full weeks off from my day job and focused on my other endeavours which was actually life altering for me. This same month Craig and I hit the road for 12 days. We did some camping and scuba diving in Alberta. We brought the dogs and the cat on this road trip and had a blast! I also reached my goal of achieving master diver status before the end of the summer.

In November I ran away to Jamaica for 3 weeks, spent the first week with my dear friend then we were joined by friends and family and Craig and I were married on a beach by the ocean.

As a side note, all the lush Jamaican vegetation in my wedding photo feels like a great fit to the colour of the year for 2017. Who knew?!

As grateful as I am for 2016, I am really looking forward to the year ahead. I have set some goals for myself in each of my businesses and at my day job that I am excited to work on. I am wishing a fantastic year ahead to you and yours, I cannot wait to see what fabulousness 2017 will bring!

Looking ahead…

Well the rush of the holidays are over for another year and I find myself sitting by my wood stove on this very cold Winnipeg day pondering what’s next? What does 2016 have in store for me, Trish and Robyn, both in our personal lives and for our business?

On the personal front, I know Robyn and Trish are enjoying the challenges of raising their kids, juggling those demands with day jobs and Drakestail commitments. I am definitely feeling career focused this year, both as a public servant and as a jewellery designer. I am also prepping for my upcoming wedding later this year, which is very exciting!

What comes foremost to my mind is a desire to be surrounded by positive people and energies. There is a lot of negative happening in the world and if you are strong in empathy, like I am, that can put a weight on you that is hard to get out from under.

I don’t really do new year resolutions per say, and I don’t limit introspection to early January, it is something I do year round. But as I sit here by my toasty warm fire, watching my cat nap and my dog play, I find myself acutely aware of all the small simple things that bring me joy and I have decided to make a conscious effort to focus on them every day going forward.

What are your plans for 2016? What’s something you’d like to focus on or do differently in your day to day this coming year?

In case you love a warm hearth like I do, here’s a picture of my lovely fire to make you smile. Stay warm! 🙂

Drakestail in 2015

We’re more than halfway through January, and well into 2015.  The holidays are now just a warm glow of memory, and it’s time to take on the new year.

Roxy is a near-perpetual traveller these days due to work. She is in Ottawa for a short time, and we got to have a business lunch on Sunday, catching up and doing a little planning. Fuelled by sushi and dim sum, we came up with some ideas, including some brainstorming on a new product line to come out this year. All I can say for now is that it’s going to be fabulous.

I’ve also been mulling over some goals for Drakestail this year and doing a little organizing. Not as exciting as product design but just as important.

Looking back, 2014 was a great year for us. I kept busy in the early months with the 100 Day Challenge.  It was a huge undertaking but I’m very proud of the work I produced.  The Exchange Uporium was a fantastic opportunity in Winnipeg’s trendy Exchange district, a gorgeous mix of handmade and vintage sellers. I participated in 5 different craft fairs, two new and three old favourites. The year wrapped up at the Boutique Pop Up Aylmer, a cozy temporary shop full of local handmade goods.

I’m looking forward to everything 2015 brings, and to having you, dear reader, with us for the journey!

New things ahead: Drakestail in 2014

Happy new year, lovely reader!  We hope you had a fantastic holiday season and feel ready to take on 2014.  There’s something about the start of a new year that feels fresh and exciting, don’t you think?

Last year was a fantastic one for Drakestail Jewellery.  We launched our Vintage by Drakestail Jewellery line, which has proven quite popular.  We’ll be expanding the line this year and adding some more designs.  Our Vintage line is now also available in two brick-and-mortar shops, The Foxy Shoppe in Winnipeg, and Rowena in Edmonton (as well as their online store www.retroglam.com)

I’ve been toying with some new designs for hair accessories.  Last year (doesn’t it feel so long ago when I say that?) I put together some cute beaded hair elastics and clips with clusters of pearls and crystals.  They’ve been popular and I’m definitely going to be making more.  We’ll be adding hair accessory options – combs, beaded bobby pins, hairbands, and I’ve even just created my first ever tiara!  Roxy made up some fabulous hair feathers which completely sold out at the Foxy Shoppe.  She’s got more of those on the go, both for the Shoppe and for our Etsy store as well.

While we both took some time off, we’re kicking off the new year with lots of great ideas.  Watch this space for news, updates, and other goodies.  Tell us what you’ve got planned for the new year, too!
