Drakestail Jewellery has a new retail location!

I’m quite happy to announce Drakestail Jewellery has found a 3rd retail location! Our very popular “Tree of Life” pendants will soon be available for sale at Heaven Scent Flowers in Gimli, Manitoba.

I went for a lovely Spring mini road trip a couple weeks ago to visit Gimli, where I met Lenore Chartrand, the owner of Heaven Scent Flowers. Her shop is so charming and we are sure the tree of life pendants will be a perfect fit! Gimli is a beautiful resort town on the west shores of Lake Winnipeg. Gimli hosts a plethora of summer festivals every year and is also a beautiful beach, camping, cottaging and boating destination, if you’ve never visited before, I highly recommend you do so this summer!

Our line of vintage inspired Swarovski crystal pearl jewellery can still be purchased from Rowena/RetroGlam in Edmonton, Alberta and from The Foxy Shoppe in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our unique, one of kind pieces will be found this summer at local art shows in and around Ottawa and Winnipeg. Of course, you can always contact us to make you that special custom piece!

We are working hard on bringing our jewellery to most major cities in Canada over the next year, and of course, in the meantime, you can always shop our ETSY store online from anywhere on the globe!

Checking in

Spring is finally here in Ottawa.  I am relieved to finally start seeing some grass under all that snow.  I’d almost forgotten what my lawn looks like.  While it has been cold outside, I’ve been busy in the cozy, warm inside.

I’ve been taking a look at some new busts and display items.  Roxy and I have been doing shows for several years and our display has evolved a LOT.  Lately I’ve been feeling like my display needs to be freshened up, so I’ve been scouring Pinterest for inspiration.

My table at the MAC Fair, in November 2013.  Not bad, but I think I can do better.

With two shows coming up, the MAC Fair and Ravenswing, I have a lot to do to get ready.  The Challenge is helping me stock up, but I have some administrative tasks to tackle – completing my inventory list, tagging all my new pieces, and picking up any new displays that I need.  I have a snazzy new tent for Ravenswing, since my last one bit the dust, so we’ll be covered, rain or shine.  The administrative work is nowhere near as fun as creating, but it definitely makes everything work much more smoothly.

I’m amazed that I’m already halfway through the 100 Day Challenge.  As of today, Day 54, I have created 22 necklaces, 10 bracelets, 23 pairs of earrings, and 2 hair accessories.  That’s a pretty fantastic amount of jewellery!  What is your favourite piece so far?  What do you want to see more of?

Now announcing: Drakestail at Ravenswing!

I’m excited to announce that Drakestail has another show in our 20014 line-up! On May 25th we’ll be back at the Ravenswing DIY Fair! Ravenswing holds a special place in our hearts because it was the very first show we ever attended, way back in May 2008. It was a gorgeous, sunny day, and we had a great time meeting fans and talking about our jewellery. It’s an outdoor fair, located at Minto Park, close to downtown at Elgin Street and Lewis Street. It has really good variety in vendors, from jewellery and pottery to small-press and self-published zines, from preserves and cupcakes to seedlings. Each year the line-up changes and there’s lots to see. There’s always live musicand a DJ, and a very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere.

Two years ago we shared our tent with a close friend of mine, who was selling preserves and delicious treats. I’m excited to announce that we’ll be sharing a tent again! His brand new business, called Sing for Icing, will feature loaves and cakes and other goodies. We hope you can make it!

Catching Up

I hope you’re enjoying the 100 Day Challenge as much as I am. I’m re-discovering some fantastic beads and it has been pushing my creativity in some great ways. Taking a moment to step back and take a look at the first third of this challenge, I’m very pleased with the pieces that I’ve been creating, with the variety of designs and styles that still all look very “us”. The timing couldn’t be better, either, since there will be spring and summer shows coming soon.

So far we have one Ottawa show scheduled, the MAC Fair: BLOOM edition. This show falls on the day before Mother’s Day, and will be a great chance to get out and see some fantastic Ottawa artisans and artists, and taste some delicious local treats. The Christmas show was wonderful, and I can’t wait to be back at Immaculata High School for this one. If you’re in the Ottawa area, get to this show. I promise you’ll love it!

We will be planning more shows for the year, and look forward to seeing you in person. Have a favourite craft fair or art show that you love to attend? Tell us in the comments!

New things ahead: Drakestail in 2014

Happy new year, lovely reader!  We hope you had a fantastic holiday season and feel ready to take on 2014.  There’s something about the start of a new year that feels fresh and exciting, don’t you think?

Last year was a fantastic one for Drakestail Jewellery.  We launched our Vintage by Drakestail Jewellery line, which has proven quite popular.  We’ll be expanding the line this year and adding some more designs.  Our Vintage line is now also available in two brick-and-mortar shops, The Foxy Shoppe in Winnipeg, and Rowena in Edmonton (as well as their online store www.retroglam.com)

I’ve been toying with some new designs for hair accessories.  Last year (doesn’t it feel so long ago when I say that?) I put together some cute beaded hair elastics and clips with clusters of pearls and crystals.  They’ve been popular and I’m definitely going to be making more.  We’ll be adding hair accessory options – combs, beaded bobby pins, hairbands, and I’ve even just created my first ever tiara!  Roxy made up some fabulous hair feathers which completely sold out at the Foxy Shoppe.  She’s got more of those on the go, both for the Shoppe and for our Etsy store as well.

While we both took some time off, we’re kicking off the new year with lots of great ideas.  Watch this space for news, updates, and other goodies.  Tell us what you’ve got planned for the new year, too!
